Roof Trusses Price

roof trusses price

With so many roof shape and roof type options it is very difficult to put a price to roof trusses. Each building is different with a different roof shape, roof pitch, roof covering and truss configuration. In this article we will look at some of the basic configurations and put an estimated square meter rate to each design. The price will include the roof trusses as well as the structural timber such as battens/purlins and bracing as well as sundry items such as fascia/barge board, insulation product and metal works such as nails, brackets, bolts, etc.

Gable Roof Design

The basic roof design would be a Gable Roof with either Cement Roof Tiles or Metal Roof Sheeting as covering. The most cost effective roof pitch is 25 degrees. At the time of writing this article the square meter price for conventional trusses for such a roof design would vary between R150 and R180 per square meter for the roof structure only.gable roof shape

Hipped Roof Design

A Hipped roof design is slightly more expensive compared to the Gable Design above. The main reason for this is because of the way the trusses are configured. With a hipped roof like this one you have an apex, which is at 45 degrees to the corners to form the hipped shape. From the apex you have smaller trusses sloping down to the walls – these trusses are supported by what we call a hip-girder truss. Depending on the width of the building and the roof cover type, this truss can be up to a 4-ply truss in order to support the smaller jack-type trusses. Because of this the square meter price varies from R180 – R220.hipped roof shape

Gable Roof with Raised Tie-Beam

Raised tie-beam trusses, very often left exposed is a much more expensive type of design. Even though the outside is still a gable design, the roof trusses inside have raised tie-beams in order to create a higher ceiling level. When left exposed with Isoboard on top of the trusses it can create an even higher ceiling level. When this method is followed the trusses are more than often bolted together with PAR (planned all round) timber to give a smoother and bulkier finish. As one can imagine this would have a huge impact on the cost of the roof trusses and you would be absolutely correct in thinking so. The average square meter price for such roof trusses would be R450 – R650 per square meter. this is very much dependent on the roof shape, building width, roof pitch and roof cover type, but normally the price is double or tripled compared to conventional trusses.exposed bolted trusses

To conclude, the roof truss price for a timber structure can vary from R150 – R650 per square meter. If you are looking for an estimation on your roof structure you can use our online form at Complete Roofing to request a free quote from your local suppliers.
